1st P4EU Structural Biology Workshop Series 2023
We are pleased to present the 1st P4EU Structural Biology Workshop Series 2023. The series was composed of four interactive on-line sessions of approximately two hours.
Programme at a glance
3.11.2023 Alphafold and complementary topics
17.11.2023 Coot map inspection and PyMol protein visualization
1.12.2023 ChimeraX
15.12.2023 Experience-based construct design
3.11.2023 Kelvin Lau
Alphafold and complementary topics
In this session, we will introduce freely available tools (Alphafold2, UNIPROT, predictors of transmembrane segments and signal peptides etc) to help in guiding your construct designs. We will introduce these tools and how to use them individually and as part of a workflow that one could implement or modify to their own needs.

17.11.2023 Luigi Scietti and Anja Schütz
Coot map inspection and PyMol protein visualization
In this interactive session, participants will learn what’s a PDB file and how to look for a protein structure in the Protein Data Bank (PDB). They will see how to open and inspect electron density maps using Coot software. In the second part, participants will interactively follow a tutorial to learn how to open, inspect and represent protein structure using PyMol.

1.12.2023 Aljaz Gaber
ChimeraX
In this interactive session, participants will learn how to import, visualize, and analyze proteins and protein complexes using the ChimeraX software. From the basics of protein structure to advanced techniques for visualizing protein-ligand interactions and protein-protein interfaces, this workshop will equip attendees with valuable skills for structural biology research.

15.12.2023 Anja Schütz, Kelvin Lau, Luigi Scietti and Aljaz Gaber, Kim Remans
Experience-based construct design
In this session we held a virtual round table discussion with structural biology experts about their experiences, preferences and the do’s and dont’s of construct design.
The basis for our round table discussion was a list of questions collected in advance from participants:
