Research Engineer, Protein Production Platform, Lund Univeristy
Lund University Protein Production Platform is recruiting a Reserach Engineer. Lund Protein Production Platform(LP3) is a cross-faculty center of Lund University for protein production, characterization, crystallography and structure determination. LP3 is a node within the national research infrastructure Protein Production Sweden (PPS) and collaborates closely with resarchers from the MAX IV laboratory and the European Spallation Source (ERIC).
You will have an important role at LP3. Work duties include maintenance of equipment, project planning, contact with clients and administration. You will also work experimentally on a project basis, communicating continually with LP3 users as well as your LP3 colleagues and collaborators. An ability to work independently is expected. Laboratory tasks include:
Analysis and quality control of protein samples before crystallization trials.
Production and crystallization of proteins as well as the study of their basic physical, chemical and functional properties.
Protein purification in several steps of tagged and non-tagged recombinant proteins for structural and/or functional studies.
Basic protein analysis techniques (for example SDS-PAGE, UV/vis spectrometry, mass spectrometry, immunoblotting).
Operation and maintenance of equipment for crystallization and biophysical protein characterisation.
Protein X-ray data collection at synchrotron beamlines.
Processing of X-ray data, determination and refinement of the structures.
Analysis, documentation and presentation of experimental data in electronic lab notebooks and reports.
Hands-on supervision of visiting guest researchers in the laboratory.
Continuous communication and dialogue with LP3 users.
Administrative duties like ordering, invoicing etc.
Maintaining a state-of-the-art knowledge of techniques and of the current literature to adapt and/or develop new structural methods and experiment designs.
Qualifications
The successful candidate is a skilled, organized, service-minded life-science professional who enjoys laboratory-based projects in a high-paced, team-work environment with tight deadlines.
Ph.D. in biomedicine, biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics or other relevant subjects.
A deep understanding of protein crystallization and biophysical characterization.
Experience in X-ray data collection at synchrotron beamlines.
Experience in X-ray data processing and determination and refinement of structures.
Protein purification in several steps of tagged and non-tagged recombinant protein for structure and/or functional studies.
A strong interest to learn and develop new techniques in protein crystallization and biophysical characterization.
Experience with software and databases for protein crystallization and biophysical characterisation.
Ability to carry out all laboratory operations in a safe and effective manner and to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
Experience in presenting results and methods.
Fluent in English, both written and oral.
Ability to be an effective team player.
User and service orientated.
Experience in contributing to the learning of others.
The position is a permanent full time post starting with a probationary employment for 6 months.
