The EMBL Protein Expression and Purification Core Facility are recruiting a Scientific Offficer.
The role will require you to:
Perform recombinant protein expression and purification experiments using different host organisms.
Discuss the project needs with individual users and developing suitable strategies for construct design, expression and purification of the requested proteins will be an important element of the daily tasks.
Quality control of the purified proteins will be done in close collaboration with the facility’s biophysics platform.

Furthermore, as scientific officer you will also participate in the development and optimization of novel methods and protocols with the aim of assembling robust and efficient pipelines for obtaining high-quality proteins, which need to be constantly adapted to the evolving requirements of our user communities. Training of users, students and visiting scientists will also be a key part of this role.

We would expect candidates to have a degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or in a closely related scientific area. Expertise in the field of recombinant protein production in the milligram scale using different gene expression systems is crucial. A strong understanding and background knowledge of chromatographic techniques such as affinity chromatography, ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction chromatography and size exclusion chromatography is required. Extensive hands-on experience with the use of automated chromatography platforms for protein purification is absolutely essential. Teamwork, flexibility, strong organizational skills and the ability to interact with a varied multicultural user community are expected. Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.

The post duration is initially for 3 years (renewable up to 9 years)
